THE INSURANCE CLAIM PROCESS
 
The insurance claims process can be time consuming, tedious and frustrating. Our highly experienced general managers partner with our administrative staff to provide our well trained field supervisors assist every homeowner throughout the entire process of the claim. This allows us to speed up the process and make it virtually seamless, making it an enjoyable experience. Below is a step-by-step process to follow when navigating the insurance claims process.

 

STEP 1: FILE YOUR CLAIM

Locate your homeowner’s insurance policy and be sure to keep it handy. Now is an excellent time to find out your deductible amount for future reference.

Many of our clients find filing online faster, which avoids lengthy hold times. Most links can be found by going to any search engine and typing in your insurance carriers name followed by storm damage claim. Most insurance companies have a specific department, not your agent’s office, to file homeowner’s claims.

Once you file your claim, call your mortgage carrier as soon as possible and ask them for a claim packet. This speeds up the process drastically and ensures your project will not experience delays. Even in the event the insurance carrier denies the claim, you have the claim packet as a paper trail saying your roof has no storm related damage for your files.

STEP 2: THE ADJUSTMENT PROCESS

Your insurance carrier will then assign an adjuster who will visit the home to confirm damage severity and provide a scope of the damage they find. ASR strongly suggests our customers take advantage of our trained Field Supervisors’ ability to help negotiate the proper claim settlement with the adjuster. We know what it takes to complete the roofing project and will be sure the settlement includes everything you need to restore your home to pre-storm condition.  ASR also will provide your insurance carrier with a full aerial measurement, digital analysis and a storm damage report outlining everything that our Field Supervisor found damaged from the storm to ensure there are no discrepancies on size or estimating materials, making the process clear and painless.

Once a settlement is figured, most insurance carriers mail the claim summary within 7-10 days. This settlement is the guideline of specifications for the contractor to follow. The carriers use predetermined prices, based on market analysis, for which they estimate each item. Once this claim summary arrives, we will meet to discuss its content, review the quantitative estimates and discuss the construction process.

DO YOU HAVE A MORTGAGE?

The mortgage company has a vested interest in the property and most of our customers have their mortgage carrier endorsed as an additional payee on the claim drafts.  This is due to the fact that in the event the claim repairs are not completed, the mortgage carrier is carrying the loan on a home worth less than its appraisal.

The mortgage companies can be incredibly tedious to work with and your involvement may be required.  Each mortgage company has different steps in getting an endorsement on the check. To eliminate a substantial amount of time and hassle from the claim process make sure to call your mortgage company to get an insurance claim packet once your claim has been approved. 

 
STEP 3: DEPRECIATION RECOVERY

Almost all insurance carriers apply depreciation to each item in the settlement. Instead of depreciation think of this as hold back for the difference in value of what your roofing/siding is worth aged (damaged) vs. what it will be worth when it’s newly restored. ASR performs the project based off the insurance company’s settlement so that when the repairs are complete, we can issue the proper invoice to your carrier for you. When we do so, the insurance carrier then pays you only for the depreciation they applied for the items repaired.  This process should take anywhere from 2-4 weeks for the check to arrive, once it arrives call your Field Supervisor and they will come and perform a full walk thru to ensure your happiness one last time.

CLAIM SUPPLEMENT

It is crucial your carrier pays for everything that is damaged and covers the claim in full in order for ASR to ensure we provide you with the best products and craftsmanship possible.  For example, there are over 30 steps in the re-roofing process. Failure to cover one of these steps results in an inferior roofing/siding system. We employ a Supplement Claims Specialist to ensure your carrier covers the project step by step, never missing critical components in the process and allowing ASR to provide you with the best possible roofing system every time.  Along with that it can be detrimental for you if your insurance carrier does not cover an item that has been damaged from the storm because you would be responsible for covering the damages if it slips through the claim.Most items missed by the insurance carrier are simple oversights. The BEST way to make sure there are no oversights is to have your trained field supervisor present at the time of the adjustment.  However when there is an oversight we provide the insurance carriers with pictures, diagrams and estimates for our clients so the claim process continues without interruption and all the items necessary to complete the project.
